Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve

Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is the only hunting reserve in Nepal. Unlike canned hunting one can enjoy wild hunting here. This reserve covers about 1325 Sq. Km in area around the districts of Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung just below the Mount. Dhaulagiri (>8000m). One can enjoy the wild hunting here so is required to take a license for this game. License is provided by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation.
This reserve is not only a hunting reserve but also a sanctuary for the most endangered species of animals and birds like snow leopard, red panda, Tibetan wolf, Himalayan musk deer etc. Hunters are allowed only to hunt blue sheep and Himalayan thar which are found abundant in this region. But be careful the animals you hunt must be male. The hunting elevation is between 3500 meters from sea level to the deadline (i.e. 5000 meters). October to April is the period for hunting in this region.
The reserve has a mixed hardwood forests with the trees like fir, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, pine, juniper and spruce as well as one of the highest widespread populations of flora up to 36 species.
